Jolly Essentials is more than a game about scratch-off lottery cards. It is about addictive behaviour and the anxiety and reflection accompanied with it. Player will enter a underground organization inside an essential store, and gambling a bunch of scratch-off cards, with superstitious elements seems to affecting their odds. Taking the form of scratch-off gambling, we invites player to an intentionally designed addictive play experience, and reflect on addictive play behaviour with consciousness.

Jolly Essentials is a game about scratch-off lottery cards.
✧What was the inspiration of the game? What made your team decide to make this game specifically?
Real-life scratch-off cards and personal addictive behaviour including video gaming.
✧Were there difficult moments when developing the game? What led to those difficult moments? What did you learn from it?
Convert something as subtle and abstract as the supersition in gambling into gameplay is difficult. We developed a design process to understand how supersition established in reality and our player's perception journey through the game.
✧Were there darlings that you had to kill? What were they? Why was the decision made to remove them from the project, and what were the reasons that you like the darling so much?
There is not. We were about to change the illusive blending backgound from the game, but later we decided to keep it.
✧Talk about your teammates! What was everyone’s role?
We are three person team: Blaer, Haotian and Linke. Our roles shift from time to time, we don't specify roles.
