Eikons of Yin Yang - Trailer
Interview:
✧In one or two sentences, what is your game about?
A fusion of captivating 2D platformer combat mechanics with rich eastern cultural elements.
✧Were there difficult moments when developing the game? What led to those difficult moments? What did you learn from it?
During the midterm of our project, around milestone 3, our former project manager faced challenges includes level designer redo the level over and over again that nearly led to abandoning the project. All our previous data, including Google Docs and our itch.io page, were deleted. Additionally, the former manager did not attend the midterm presentation. Stepping up, Xingyi Shen volunteered to take on the role of project manager. Alongside our group members, we worked on the presentation and, more importantly, took on the responsibility of managing the group, creating plans, and assigning tasks weekly. Through this experience, we learned the importance of effective group management and the necessity of maintaining a positive attitude even in challenging situations.
✧Were there darlings that you had to kill? What were they? Why was the decision made to remove them from the project, and what were the reasons that you like the darling so much?
We developed a system for collecting creatures known as "Eikons" to aid the player. We designed numerous Eikons inspired by eastern myths, each with unique abilities. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and level design considerations, we had to remove them from the project. It was a difficult decision as creature design is a passion of mine.
✧Talk about your teammates! What was everyone’s role?
Xingyi Shen is our artist and current project manager. Yinqi Wang is primarily focused on programming and combat design; previously served as the project manager and creator. Yuyao Wu specializes in level design, while Louis Hulburd handles sound effects and also contributes to playtesting and reporting.
