Dirty Work - Trailer
Interview:
✧In one or two sentences, what is your game about?
Dirty Work is a top-down, 2D, twin-stick, dungeon crawler and cleaning game hybrid where you gut out homes filled with sentient monsters made of muck. Equipped with a sledgehammer, soap grenades and a weaponized firehose with a portable water tank,, you play as Grise who is equipped to wash down foes and clean homes at the same time!
✧Were there darlings that you had to kill? What were they? Why was the decision made to remove them from the project, and what were the reasons that you like the darling so much?
The removal of our beloved dog enemy was the hard decision we had to make for the game but it was a necessary cut we had to make. With the dog being a highly anticipated enemy that the team invested hours into creating concept art and blocking out code, it was heartbreaking to cut the enemy from the game. With how technically and artistically demanding the dog was becoming, we decided it would be best to work on other aspects of the game, given the time we had left on the project. Soon, the dog enemy will be back in the game!
✧Talk about your teammates! What was everyone’s role?
Our team was made up of eight people. With such a small team and such an ambitious game, each team member wore various hats, employing all of their talents to make Dirty Work. We have one insanely talented programmer, Leena V., who worked incredibly hard to put together the core system of dungeon crawler and cleaning game hybrid, especially the wave spawning system and enemy AI. Nayan S. doubled as both the narrative designer and environmental artist, adding interesting lore to the world of Dirty Work, creating a cast of captivating characters, and adding a visual world for people to play in. Raynah A. and Diane Y. are the other exceptionally talented artists responsible for their brilliant concept art and for creating the character and enemy animations that bring the game to life. Jocelyn X., the UX/UI designer for Dirty Work, created the narrative portraits for talking to characters and the textboxes that make information presentable for the player. Malachi G. is the mastermind behind all of the sound effects and music for Dirty Work, intertwining his work with code to give an immersive feel to the game with progressive music that rises and falls with the game's intensity. Earl K. is one of our contributors who worked as an initial programmer, creating the tile effect for cleaning. Earl then transitioned to visual effects, making the game look and feel amazing. Kimari R. is the producer for the game, putting together schedules, milestones, and documents to help keep the project organized and on track.
