Interview:

✧What was the inspiration of the game? What made your team decide to make this game specifically?

Cards are all about breaking rules; I always wanted to break the rules of Scrabble in particular, as it's a classic game that I played a lot in my childhood and there's something exciting about tearing that down.

✧Were there difficult moments when developing the game? What led to those difficult moments? What did you learn from it?

Almost all of it! I learned that I should scope more appropriately working alone- or not work alone! I was also extremely stubborn about implementing networked multiplayer. I ultimately got it working, so I probably learned the wrong lesson from that. But scoping appropriately and knowing when help is needed would've made a difference.

✧Were there darlings that you had to kill? What were they? Why was the decision made to remove them from the project, and what were the reasons that you like the darling so much?

Socket cards. Cards that you could "inlay" letter tiles into that would then have their effect amplified or influenced by the inlaid letter. I really wanted this, but not only was it a technical frustration, I couldn't find meaningful things to manipulate about letters specifically- it always came down to being about full words, which undermined the concept. It could've become about where the fused letter/card was placed on the board, but the game is simply not refined enough to expect a coherent outcome from trying that.
